General Academic Rules

Retention Policy for Programs with Board/Licensure Examinations

The retention policy for students in programs that require board examinations mandates specific GPA requirements for students at different stages of their academic journey. For the Bachelor of Science in Architecture, students must maintain a GPA of at least 2.25 and must not have any failing grades in Architecture subjects. For programs such as BSABE (Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering), BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering), BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering), and BSEcE (Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering), the same GPA requirement applies along with no failing grades in crucial subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Before advancing to their third year, students must also meet these GPA thresholds.

Retention Policy for Programs without Board/Licensure Examinations

For programs that do not require board examinations, such as BSCpE (Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering) and BSIE (Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering), students need to maintain a GPA of 2.25 or better and must also show no failing grades in key subjects. In contrast, programs like BSCS (Bachelor of Science in Computer Science) and BSIT (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology) have a minimum qualifying exam rating of 70%. However, students with a GPA of 1.50 or better are exempt from this requirement.

Other Programs Retention Policies

Warning Status

A student who receives incomplete (INC), conditional (4.0), or failing (5.0) grades in 30% to 50% of enrolled subjects will face a warning. Maintaining this status over two consecutive semesters may lead to probation.

Probation Status

Should a student receive similar grades in 51% or more of their enrolled subjects, they will enter probation and can only enroll in 15 credit units. Failing two consecutive semesters under probation leads to disqualification.

Disqualification Status

A student may be disqualified if they fail in 75% or more of their enrolled subjects. They will retain a load of 15 units in the succeeding semester and may lose eligibility to continue studies after two disqualifications.

Grading System

Standard Grading Scale

The university employs a grading scale where:

96.7 to 100.0 is equivalent to a grade of 1.00
Below 50 results in a grade of 5.00

Grades below 70 are considered failing, while an incomplete (INC) means the student has passed yet lacks some requirements.

Grade Definitions

INC (Incomplete): Students must complete the remaining requirements within one year.
DRP (Dropped): This may occur due to unexcused absences of 20% or more of total class hours, or if a student opts to drop a subject before midterms.

Academic Load Regulations

Students must adhere to maximum credit unit limits per semester, and graduating students can overload by up to 26 units in their final semester if they maintain a GPA of at least 2.50 in the preceding two semesters.

Graduation Requirements

Completion and Honors

To graduate, students must complete all academic and thesis requirements. Graduation honors are awarded as follows:

Cum Laude: GPA between 1.75 and 1.51
Magna Cum Laude: GPA between 1.50 and 1.26
Summa Cum Laude: GPA of 1.25 or better

Students must also meet residency requirements, which specify a minimum number of semesters enrolled immediately before graduation.

Students’ Code of Conduct

General Provisions

The code applies to all bona fide students enrolled at all levels within the University. Students are required to adhere to national laws and University regulations. They must conduct themselves in a manner that supports the academic environment and fulfill their obligations as members of the community.

Attendance and Conduct Regulations

Attendance is mandatory, with students dropped from rolls if absent without excuse for 20% or more of class hours. An ID card must be worn on University premises, and specific dress codes apply. Male students must maintain a neat haircut and avoid inappropriate accessories.

Disciplinary Offenses and Sanctions

Offenses such as non-compliance with dress codes, unauthorized cell phone use in class, and academic dishonesty lead to administrative actions. Serious offenses such as fighting, smoking on campus, and possession of illegal substances trigger severe penalties including suspension or expulsion.
