Distinction Between Teaching and Learning

Considerations for Developing a Teaching Plan

Physical Factors: Comfort, sensory deficits (hearing/vision loss).
Psychological/Motivation: Readiness to learn, emotional status (anxiety, fear).
Environment: Conduciveness to learning.
Age: Tailoring methods for young learners (games, play), adults (relevance, immediate use, control), and older adults (processing time, reinforcement).

Developing and Evaluating a Teaching Plan

The teaching plan mirrors the nursing process:

Assessment: Identify learning needs, current knowledge, preferred learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic), and readiness to learn.
Expected Outcomes: Formulate specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives (e.g., "Patient will demonstrate how to ambulate up and down stairs with crutches by the end of the teaching session").
Content: Prioritize essential information, focusing on what the patient truly needs to know.
Methods/Materials: Utilize appropriate resources like videos or reputable internet sites.
